Runner beans

I only used to eat runner beans when cooked, but many years ago now, I observed my mother-in-law's tortoise eating raw runner beans with great enthusiasm.   So I tried one and found that I liked it.

Oswin does too.  Really likes them.  Can eat several in a day.

Today, she was eating a slice of cake.  Grandad came in with fresh supply of runner beans from the allotment and gave her half of a runner bean.

She took it with great delight, ate it at once, and only then went back to the cake.

I love a three year old who appreciates allotment veg!

I like this! We have never grown ANY beans because my husband didn´t like any vegetables. But I like beans, in "Mexico mixture" mostly:-).
Oswin knows what is good for her!:-)

I'm growing dwarf yellow french beans in my pots this year. Four plants to a pot (and two pots on the go) and they are amazing, already had two meals, have lots in a box in the freezer and more to ripen as well. Small and furry Jasper Hamster does not think much of bought 'fine beans' from Tesco but give him the top and tails of my home grown ones and they are all gobbed up. He also likes fresh lettuce from my troughs (and so do I in salads!).

Jasper hamster clearly appreciates the difference between fresh beans and ones flown in from Kenya.
