German Easter Wells

If you share my love of folk traditions, then you'll love this post by Selenak.  Many people are familiar with Russian decorated eggs, and I showed you Czech ones the other day, but the German painted egg tradition is different again.

At  Easter, the wells are decorated with garlands of hand-painted eggs and greenery.  The designs are usually pictorial rather than abstract and cover a wide range of themes.  There's very little repetition and the effect is lovely. Yes, this is typically German! They are very organised and the decoration is beautiful. We don´t have this style. Everyone either buys commercial decorations or (which I absolutely prefer) use their own creations. I have no particular decoration at home but I baked again and I will post some pictures later. Because I must wait for Monday when children will come with their "wassailing" - I want to take some pictures!

Here, it's all chocolate eggs, but I have painted Czech eggs this year with Oswin and hope to make it an annual tradition.

I look forward to your photos.

You and I appreciate folk traditions!
